The History of Vale House
Built around 1830, Vale House was originally a private residence for Charles Holland, a Liverpool businessman and Justice of the Peace. Holland played a key role in shaping the surrounding grounds, employing botanist William Grinsell Burston to cultivate exotic plants and trees that later formed the foundation of what is now Vale Park.
Over time, the building transitioned from a family home into a community space, but reports of strange occurrences have followed it through every stage of its history. Sightings of Victorian-era figures, unexplained footsteps, and apparitions in both the house and surrounding park have been documented for decades, with some reports serious enough to involve police investigations during the 1960s.
Paranormal Activity at Vale House
Vale House is widely regarded as one of New Brighton’s most haunted locations. Visitors, staff, and investigators have reported:
Disembodied voices and unexplained sounds
Cold spots and sudden temperature changes
Shadowy figures seen in empty rooms
Knocks, footsteps, and movement with no clear source
These reports, combined with the building’s age and layered history, make Vale House a strong candidate for ongoing paranormal investigation.
